You may have heard in the news recently about a major change, currently being rolled out, to the way Google lists search results on mobile devices. The problem is many sites are not responsive, meaning that they were only built for desktop computers and are hard to navigate on mobile devices. Users often have to look at pages where the text is too small, the links are tiny, and you have to scroll sideways to see all the content? This usually happens when the website has not been optimised to be viewed on a mobile phone. Google doesn’t want to serve up results that are not mobile user friendly, so they are implementing a new algorithm change to demote sites that aren’t usable on phones and tablets.

In a nutshell, if your site is not classed as “mobile friendly” by Google, your site could be demoted in mobile search results and with up to 50% of internet searches now being carried out via mobile phones and tablets, this could affect a large portion of your web traffic and SEO results.

You can read more about Google's new policy and test wehther your site is currently mobile friendly at:

At this time of year, out thoughts start to turn to turkey dinners, lazy days watching repeats of the Royal Family and trying to cram in that last mince pie. It appears as though most of you out there are doing the same as our work always drops off considerably in December as people gear up for Christmas. Whilst we would rather this were not the case, it does give us time to update our own website with recently completed projects, something we rarely get time to do the rest of the year.

You can see our portfolio at

We hope you like our work and of course if you need a need a new website building or an existing one maintained, we'd love to hear from you.

For now, we like to wish all our clients, old and new, a very merry Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous new year.

It's great to have the new style West5web website up and running after what seems like an eternity working on it. We hope you like it and would love to hear any comments you may have ... good or bad!!

As West5web is now based in Brighton, we needed to think hard about how to attract new clients in Brighton and Sussex as well as continuing to attract new clients in London and support our existing ones. We're working with a local SEO firm to try and get us onto page one of Google for "web design Brighton" - not easy but I'm confident we'll get there in the end.

If you live in Brighton, London or in fact anywhere in the UK and are looking for a professional but affordable website design company, we'd love to hear from you.

For now, we'd like to wish all our clients and their families a very happy Christmas and a peaceful new year.

A good fiend of our's here at West5web is soon to be dipping his toes (and presumably the rest of his body) into Fulham Swimming Pools next Sunday (20th October 23013) and swimming up to 2 miles to raise money for services for disabled people living in West London. He continues to be an inspiration to all who meet him and we wish him the very best next Sunday.

I will be throwing myself in at the deep end at Fulham Pools next Sunday and swimming up to 2 miles to raise money for services for disabled people living in West London. The last two years have certainly been an unpredictable time for disabled people with changes in legislation affecting both housing and employment, bringing uncertainty for some, yet opportunities for others. It’s a challenging period for all of us and I appreciate money is tight. However I’m doing this for those who really are vulnerable and require our support. For your information if you were not aware, I’ve lived with MS for all of my adult life, I don’t expect any quarter and give none in return in trying to better the lives of those people who have not been as fortunate as the rest of us.

I hope this message can inspire you to forward a few pennies to the attached link but in anticipation of your generosity I have written you a poem. It’s somewhat John Cooper Clarke and is somewhat in your face but then so is disability and sometimes the misinformation that surrounds it.

Lying, Thieving, Bastard

I'm an LTB; What's that mean to me?
Lying, thieving, bastard: No sympathy.
Spit in my face!.You utter disgrace!
Can't you see? Your more impaired than me.
Sit and shift, pass the blame
shuffle papers, what's the aim?
Cast aspersions; Frame the weak
Look at me, you god damn freak!
Bold and brash, you bark today
But come the storm, you'd shy away.
Nothing more than an evil claw
My father beat, your type before.
Hear me now, behold this news
I'll live my life, its mine to choose
To earn the coin and feel the pain
clear thy head! I'm not a drain.
So when you see me, in my chair
then doubt me not, if you dare.
I've done my bit, I've paid the price
Respect when due; Hates not nice.

I've just been reading about how Google street view has been undergoing a major revamp, with more of the UK being covered. About 65% of the UK's road are now covered by Google street view.

Not everyone however is quite as keen on street view as Google would have us believe. And anyway, is it really that useful? We've all checked out our own houses on street view but do we really use it for more than that?

Having just relocated from London to Brighton, street view was really useful when looking at the location of properties we wanted to view. What do you think? Is Google Street View a good thing?

We've been working with Weng, the founder and director of W-Architects for a while now and are delighted to announce that the new W-Architects website is now live at

The website was created using a content management system allowing Weng and his team the ability to easily update the site with details of his new projects as and when required. The site also features stsylish gallery pages which showcase his recent architectural design projects.

Working with Weng was a real pleasure and we wish him well for the future.

We've been working hard over the last few weeks to get our new look site up and running.

We figured that as West5web has had a change of location (we're now in Brighton) we could do with a revamp of our old site too!! Hope you like it?
